Pysanky ("pih-sank-ee") is the Ukrainian craft of "writing" Easter eggs. Symbolizing new life, the eggshell is a perfect canvas to commemorate a number of occasions. All Daedalshop pysanky are done on real eggshells, using the traditional method of applying hot wax with a kitska (stylus) heated over candle flame.
The egg is dipped in dye, usually in a progression of colors from light to dark, with wax applied on each color layer. At the end of the process, the wax is removed (also by candlelight) to reveal all the colors written beneath. The egg is then cleaned and varnished with a UV-protectant finish.
Consider commissioning a custom, handcrafted egg to commemorate an event in the life of someone you love. Or buy one or a set to decorate your baskets, table, or mantelpiece at Easter (or another holiday).
